Welcome to a wealth of information about the exploration, growth and development of Tacoma and the Puget Sound region. Here you will find unique collections that provide easy access to a variety of materials about the people, places and events that have shaped our local history.


These online resources draw from Tacoma Public Library’s substantial local history collection housed in the Northwest Room at the Main Branch original 1903 Carnegie Library. Access to information held in clipping files, city directories, newspapers, photos, maps, and a host of other original materials is provided here for the use of researchers near and far. If you are looking for information about Tacoma’s historic buildings, people, industry, neighborhoods and communities, you’ve come to the right place.
