Since they were introduced in the late nineteenth century, postcards have been a popular and inexpensive way to record visits, promote cities and attractions, and keep in touch. Today, they also serve as an important historical resource. The Northwest Postcard Collection features a selection of postcards spanning the twentieth century that highlight scenes of Tacoma and elsewhere in the Pacific Northwest. Many of these postcards were mailed, and contain messages that offer slice-of-life glimpses into the past. Both sides of each postcard have been scanned and any messages transcribed.
